las vegas…was…interesting

and gila monsters DO meet you at the airport.

so the desert is a much different place than what i am familiar with.  it was 106 degrees every day we where there and just so, well, bleak in places.

we arrived without incident sunday and R actually boosted for an upgrade at check in so we got what was called a tower suite but in the pyramid – 30th floor – front and center.  it was 1100 sq feet and had a foyer, a bar/dining area, a sitting area a master bedroom complete with fainting couch and one and a half baths.  mind you the apt i lived in for most of my twenties was maybe 800 sq feet with basically a half bath made into a full.  the luxor, for us, was posh.

sunday was cher at the colosseum then the belagio fountains on the walk back down the strip.  a good way to start off the week in vegas.

monday was getting settled and some machine gambling and a little recouping from such a very large sunday with a spin around the stratosphere. this is the night we learned to stay way from the buffet.  yuck.

tuesday was a drive to the hoover dam and then on to what is known as grand canyon west were the hulapai nation has built a glass sidewalk out over the canyon.  pretty cool and somewhat disorienting at first. especially considering that you are two empire state buildings stacked on top of each other high above the canyon floor.

then there was the craps table. i had never played before and it was very fun. a little party of people hanging out aroun this table drinking and encouraging each other for good roles.  i like craps.

wednesday was all afternoon at the pool and it is a glorious pool indeed. until the end of the day when the pool was cleared due to a potential biohazard.  GAH!

thursday was travel back day.  exhausted but only 200 down from gambling.  and friday was lost to sleeping it off and switching back from pacific time to eastern.

things i noticed while about town: the desert is like what i imagine mars is like – bleak and unforgiving; children should be taken to disneyland – not ’sin city’; should you inadvertently bring your children, they should never be on the casino floor (and i do mean at anytime), or on the strip after dark.  oh, and never hand a dealer money – always place it on the table.

that is it in a nutshell.  don’t think i’d go back.  don’t get me wrong – it was a fun trip and i am glad i did go. it just doesn’t seem the kind of place i’ll hang. except maybe by that pool and the craps table.

viva las vegas!
